Crystallization, barium sulfate, scale formation in particular, desilication products, morphology control of particles, nanoparticle formation.

Biography
- BSc (Hons) in Chemistry awarded by the University of Sydney in NSW in 1989. My honours project was "The Mechanism of Second Harmonic Generation in Germanium Doped Optical Fibres". Dr M. Sceats was my supervisor.
- 1990 - 1994 Experimental Scientist with the CSIRO Division of Mineral Products (now Division of Minerals)
- 1995 - Oct 1997 PhD studies at the Curtin University of Technology in conjunction with the AJ Parker CRC for Hydrometallurgy. My thesis title was "The Mechanism of Bayer Residue Flocculation". My supervisors were Dr. J. Farrow from CSIRO and Dr. B. van Bronswijk from Curtin University of Technology.
- Oct 1998 - Jan 2000 Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfacial Science, Golm, Germany. I worked with Dr. Helmut Cölfen in the Colloid department, Biomineralisation group.
