Mineral Processing

Background

Minerals related research at the NRI is focussed on the needs of the minerals industry, on environmental issues related to the management and reuse of industrial by-products, and on understanding fundamental processes related to the growth and dissolution of minerals under a wide range of conditions.

Current Activities

A range of research activities are currently underway, many of which overlap with the crystallization and solid state chemistry programs.

  1. Control and inhibition of scale formation
    Franca Jones, Bill Richmond
  2. Optimisation of precipitation processes
Bill Richmond, Bobby Pejcic, Nicole Gorham
  3. Removal of impurities during processing
    Bill Richmond, Franca Jones
  4. Minimisation and reutilization of wastes
    Kate Wright, Daniel Southam
  5. Mineral chemistry and speciation
Kate Wright, Andrew Rohl, Julian Gale, Franca Jones
  6. Bio-inspired minerals processing
Kate Wright, Mark Ogden, Franca Jones

Funding

Research in the minerals program is funded by Parker CRC for Integrated Hydrometallurgical Solutions, CRC Sustainable Resource Processing, and by the Australian Research Council.
